Project Story
The original stone fireplace stayed. Everything else — footings, foundation, structure — was built new around it.
The owners wanted to keep the one thing that made the old cottage irreplaceable: its original stone fireplace and chimney. That meant demolishing and rebuilding around a free-standing masonry structure — protecting it through demolition, excavation and forming, and designing new footings that work around and beside its existing base.
We protected the chimney, excavated and formed new footings around the preserved masonry on a rocky lakeside site, and poured a new foundation that incorporates the fireplace at the heart of the new floor plan.

A brand-new structure with the family's original stone fireplace standing exactly where it always has — the past kept, everything around it built to last another generation.
